Juicy's story
Starting at the beginning...Juciy came into care just maybe two months ago. She was still recovering from being blinded by a horrible vet who took shortcuts, as well as fought for her life after a botched spay, with in one or two blocks from the vet who had preformed her spay, Juciy's insision opened and her intestines had came out, after a two weeks stay in the vets she finally was able to leave (former family is still working on justice for Juciy). Due to her becoming blinded during the stay they where unable to keep her and she was surrendered into care. Juciy was placed with a wonderful couple who lived on a farm with a stay at home mom and a daddy who spoils everything. Juciy was doing very well and thriving. She would be outside with her fosters when they would go out, was taken to visit in the barn, walked back into the orchard and fields on tether and learning about her world. You see not only was she blind, but she was just a puppy of about 8 months old. Juicy in a few weeks of eye meds was beginning to possibly see shadows thru one eye yet was happy and thriving. Made friends with the ducks, chickens who would waddle to her, the goats who would come and let her sniff them as she gleefully wagged her stubby tail. The pony and turkey would simply watch this impful pup as they had not made up their mind yet how they felt about her. The farm kitties would play with her and share kitty treats....yes, Juicy was becoming one of the family in this wonderful foster home. Not many families are willing to provide dedicated love to a blind dog, But this family was more than willing to share their home with a little bully/beagle mix.
Juicy is hit by car.
Juicy loves being on her tether out by the duck house and playing with her many kitties while her foster daddy did his farm chores, the day was wonderful and warm. Somehow the clip that kept her safe broke, she got loose with no one realizing it, during that time someone came to tell her foster dad there was a dog hit on the road, thinking it was their distant neighbors shepherd possibly being hit (Fancy is always standing on rt 45 in way northern Bloomfield, the family will not surrender her or keep her safe, trust me we have tried, the poor girl suffers witrh pyroderma and other problems) it was not Fancy or any animal in that area, no body was found, so Juicy's dad came back home, once he was back he went to the barn to get Juicy and she was not there, thinking her mom had taken her back in the house he went to work in his wood craft room making x-mas gifts for his grandkids. That evening when Ken went back into his home, there was no Juicy. Everyone looked to no avail. The fields, house, barns even the neighbors looked in theirs. She was not to be found anywhere!! The ditches where searched incase she was hit.......nothing. All who knew her were just worried sick!!!!
Juicy is found!
Ken found Juicy Sunday while her foster mom was at church. Someone placed her on the ground behind the duck house with a green fleece jacket on. Someone had hit her, ( we now think this was the dog that was stated who was on the road that we could not find). Who ever kept her had done so for TWO days before putting her behind the duck house in the green mens fleece, with lady items left in the pocket. The person who hit her KNEW where she belonged but had tried to cover up hitting her, however this strong brave Juicy was still living and who hit her felt too guilty possibly, could not dump her! However, keeping her away from medical treatment was an act of cold inhumane cruelity. This poor girl has suffered so much already, her foster mom and dad are just heartbroken. But right now Foster mom Susan just wants to get this little girl back to a happy baby. She will deal with those she feels responcible later.
Juicy goes to the Vet
Juicy was taken to the Animal Medical Center where she is being treated for her injuries. She has sever vertigo from the brain swelling and possibly an ear infection that looks to be setting in. Her neck is broken in two places (c2 & c3) but her spinal cord is intact, so it should heal but will take some time and she will never wear a collar, harnesses only to carry her tags etc. Her pelvis is broke and over laps in one area but that will heal together, her rear left and right front legs are extreemly deeply brused with over extended nerves as well as muscles, currently they are usless, however she does retract them with the pinch, so Dr. Snyder feels she will heal but its going to take 6 weeks before we see positive movement where she will attempt to hold her own weight. Its very hard for her to stand on just two feet, Juicy is on very restrictive care so she can heal, she is crate rest only, she is taken out in a harness with pelvic support for potty, gets medication twice a day with plenty of love. Her foster daddy is building her a mobil playpen with a door, so she does not feel caged during her confinement. She will see Dr. Snyder in two weeks unless Juicy needs to see her before then.
