Companions who need a miracle
This is Dee Dee a very special lady who had lived her 3 years of life with a back yard breeder, she was only kept to produce 3 litters of puppies and could produce no more due to her hernia's. Dee Dee was surrendered to us when it was apparent that she could not be breed again. Dee Dee was never taken to a vet for even basic shots or health check. She is like so many thousand who are kept by back yard breeders or puppy mills until the very life is taken from them for the sake of producing puppies for a dollar bill. No dog should ever experience the pain and suffering this girl endured for this purpose. We included her hernia photos and they are graphic. Her story will continue as we try to save this one little life. .
A new beginning for Dee Dee
UPDATES for Dee Dee
We had a fund raiser for Dee Dee to get a life saving surgery because she was so critical with in 4 weeks of coming into care. We would hold her bladder and intestines in place back in her belly so she could potty. This little girl needed a miracle!
Thanks to many wonderful people who donated the funds to help deliver this sweet little girl from the bondage of pain and darkness she suffered for 3 years. Dee Dee was given her second chance and had reborn to her the gift of life and a new beginning.
On Tuesday March 9th, 2010 about 12:00 noon she went under anesthetic to begin the hernia repairs and in time her oral needs. Twenty six teeth where saved, she lost all her front teeth. For this three year old girl the lack of care and nutrition was just too damaging. Unknowingly to anyone, this would turn out to be a long operation. Dr. Valerie, her assistant Tammy and others toiled more than three hours after the incision was made to give this baby a new life and a future! Once Dr. Valerie began, there was a little more than what she expected. She was hopeful despite that Dee Dee's "Oh" rings and muscles where so thin, weak and frail, they would mend and strengthen in time with good nutrition and care now that the hernia's would be corrected and Dee Dee was being cared for properly. One of the muscles on one side was very small and gave Dr. Valerie very little to work with, but she was able to and we will watch that area to make sure it is strengthening and mending well. She has a little concern but not much. Should Dr. Valerie see that its not mending as she feels it should, Dee Dee will need to have another surgery to place a mesh in to help support and act as a muscle wall to hold things in their place. Sometimes a little something extra is needed but we remain hopeful that this will be the only operation that Dee Dee will ever need. Once she was in post-op it was over, Dee Dee was wrapped in nice warm blankets and woke up so warm, being a Dachshund I think she would have been thought she went to doggy heaven while she was waking up and so cocooned. Dee Dee spent another night with her vet and today the 10th of March she came back home to heal.
We are home and of course Dee Dee is in the kitchen and protesting because she wants out of her condo ( crate ) to run about. She is a little fashion statement with that fancy collar to keep her away from her hot pink stitches. To meet her one would never know this girl just won a huge battle to live. She has one long cut on her tummy and about 13 missing teeth to show for it. She is not allowed to move freely about for quite a few weeks due to the healing process. Miss Dee Dee is going to be limited for a couple months and mostly in her large condo so she can move around comfortably . Dr. Valerie is not going to release her to be adopted for about 2-3 months. She wants to make sure everything has fully healed and going strong with no relapse. In the long term she will be a happy girl living pain free and eating anything that does not eat her first..she will eat soft food mostly. The family who adopts her will need to understand that although she is healed, she will have some minor limitations because we know that her muscle mass is rather on the thin side and we would never want Dee Dee to experience a hernia ever again and stop her from enjoying life now that she is a liberated sweet heart. So this is where we are today.

UP DATE 4-2-10
Unfortunately for this beautiful baby I think she may need to have that other operation. This morning when we checked her belly we found a bubble (Possibly) a small hernia reforming on the right side, but she is still healing and it could be just part of her healing as it is still early. We will keep updating this page as we continue Dee Dee's story and development.
UPDATE 4-27-10
This morning at 9:30 am Dee Dee went to see her favorite friends who care about her so deeply and want to see her fully recovered. Dee Dee walked in with a full wag and a chipper attitude that stated that she was having a fantastic morning. While waiting for Doctor Valerie to come in, Dee Dee spied the clinics mascot (Louie?) the cat.
Dr. Valerie Olszak found on exam a small little bulging that I had spotted but we will wait until her inside stitches are fully dissolved and allow her own body to heal and see if it closes on its own. Its very small and because there is not a whole loop popping out, its safe to do the watch, wait and see. Dee Dee is holding her weight very well at 9.1 ounce. She is glowing in all the attention she gets. I am thinking we have spoiled her to no end.....Nawwwwwwwwwww no such thing, Dee Dee will tell you herself that she is well loved.
Well that's it for now. Will continue updating as move along with Dee Dee's story. ( posted by Dominique / volunteer )

Dee Dee's second operation UP DATE:
Dee Dee was delivered at Dr. Valeries to have her second operation to finish the repair on her horrible hernia's. She got threw it with flying colors. It was a rather long operation because even though she has started developing muscle, tissue and her OH rings where a little stronger, the 3 years of neglect and breeding took their toll. We expect a full recovery and release soon so that she will be able to have a family who will be dedicated and offer her a life long home.
When we brought her home from Dr. Valerie's, the first thing she did was drop and roll on the grass. You could tell she liked coming home where she has found love, compassion and Cherish that she deserved from the day she was born. We are not the only ones who partook in saving this little girls life, It was many out there in cyber space who touched this little fur baby with prayer, love and donations to make her pain go away and give her freedom to begin a new life and adventure so she can write her new story in the future because she got a second chance to be re-born. Her medical care as of 6-5-2010 is over $1800.00. Thank you families out there who gave hope and saved this little girl thru your love and donations.
The next story we hope to add a photo of her and a family who will help her write it. We are now looking for that family willing to adopt this wonderful baby. Until then here are some new photos taken this week.

FREE at LAST!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well today June 16, 2010 our little rescue princess that we affectionately call Dee Dee went to see Dr. Valerie Olszak for the last time today. She had her staples removed but has a little reactive area that we are going to give her a few doses of antibiotics for from her staples, but other than that she is free of pain from horrible hernias, her mouth is pain and a few teeth free, she can now eat anything that does not eat her of course, her weight is fantastic at 9 pounds 7 ounces and holding. She feels brand new! After we left D.V.M. DR. Valerie Olszak's we went straight to the Orwell Dairy Queen for a Ice Cream Cone, I know its not the best thing but you have to celebrate once your past the pain, tears and worry of saving these poor fur babies. Dee Dee ate it all with glee. I took some photos that I will get on line. With that being said, she has been given the all clear to be allowed to move into a new home, she is available for adoption. So we are now looking at those families who wish to adopt her and offer her a truly stable and dedicated environment where she will be forever cherished and loved unconditionally.
WE would love to thank everyone who participated to this little girl life, we could not have done it with out you. Valerie Olszak and her wonderful staff who gave of their medical knowledge and devotion showering her with love as they worked so hard to help give this little one freedom from all the pain she has endured while receiving her treatments. Her life was saved because of us joining together to give her a second chance and a wonderful life. May you be just as blessed as she is. God bless and THANK-YOU

DEE DEE has a new home!!
We are proud to say that DEE DEE now has a wonderful home. She was adopted on fathers day. A new beginning with a human dad and mom. She now has Family! Her new pet parents are wonderful. They are childless while their daughter / Dee Dee's big sister is away at school. Although she has been given great care and two operations to repair her belly that was so damaged due to forced breeding. We do not know what her senior years will bring. Her big sister is in Vet school and besides being a cherished little sister happy on the family farm, she will be able to receive all the specialty care she will ever need. This new story that she will write is because people all over the United States gave her this chance threw donations to help cover the high cost of her medical care. They are Earth Angels put here to help bless those in need. We hold each and every one in our hearts and pray they will be blessed back as Dee Dee was in life ten fold. I will be posting her family photo soon.
